Everyone expressing every thought... on everything.

Updated: Jul 31, 2024

In the early 80s to mid 90s, it was common to open up a news paper—I'm an 80s baby—and hear a review of the latest movie, book, album, or restaurant from a critic.

I am a HUGE movie guy, so I would watch Siskel and Ebert to get their opinions on the latest flicks. It was cool to get the perspective of films from these guys. My parents had tons of magazine subscriptions and one of my favorites to read was Southern Living. They always had dope restaurants and reviews of experiences they had visiting and hanging out with their chefs. There was one common thread tying their reviews together: they were done by experts— or someone close to and with a true passion for their perspective subjects.

That leads me into today's climate:

Everyone expressing every thought... on everything.

The restaurant industry has suffered due to being held hostage by people who could care less if this industry flourishes. Most good people expect to have a great time when they go out or have a bite to eat. When they do, they might tell a few friends. But if the meal is anything less than their opinion of perfection... ONE STAR.

More often than not, this comes from people who have never held a chef knife or ventured to make a poached egg in their own kitchen. Yet, people are given the power to bring financial ruin to small businesses or take away a server's wellbeing because your restaurant was on a wait... and they didn't have a reservation.

One Star? There are real human beings working their butts off to provide you a paella that you have no idea how to make yourself. We have to take our industry back. Post picks...give grace...and always remember that if your steak comes out cold, its called a mistake. It's not revenge for you coming into a business to give them money...Believe That.
